Optima & Discover Step Up
From the August 1995 Issue of CardTrak

American Express has scored a hit with the new True Grace Optima card. The card, released less than a year ago, has signed up more than 1.4 million cardholders. The program now represents 24% of all Optima cards now in force. The True Grace card offers a grace period on all new purchases regardless of whether or not the cardholder paid off the previous month's balance. (1-800-678-4629)

This month AmEx announced an agreement with Delta Airlines to market a new cobranded credit card to consumers starting early next year. The new Delta Skymiles Optima card will reportedly offer competitive pricing with the option of earning air mileage.

Will Skymiles take-off like True Grace ? We'll know when it comes out the hangar.

After being defeated in its legal battle to issue VISA cards Dean Witter, Discover & Company launched a new version the Private Issue card (the upgraded Discover). The new card comes in three options: "Rate Advantage", "5% Interest Rebate" and "Cashback Bonus Award". Besides the pricing/rebate options cardholders get to choose billing date and the look of the card. The look includes a choice of three paintings by celebrity artists Ringo Star, Jane Seymour and Florence Griffith Joyner. (1-800-474-2273).
