TAP, EAT, N GO (08/18/04)
FULL STORY:
Forget "super-sized," McDonald's is going for "super-fast" service. The nation's largest quick serve restaurant chain is getting ready to roll-out a system that enables customers to tap or wave the new "PayPass
MasterCard" on or near a specially equipped credit card terminal that
utilizes a radio frequency chip to complete a payment transaction.
Participating McDonald's restaurants in Dallas and the
New York metropolitan area will implement "PayPass" later this year,
with additional locations to be added in 2005. McDonald's currently
accepts credit cards at more than 4,500 restaurants in the USA and
expects to hit 8,000 by the end of this year. McDonald's has more than
13,500 restaurants in the USA. McDonald's piloted the ExxonMobil
"SpeedPass" system, similar to MasterCard's "PayPass," in the Chicago
area last year. For more information go to www.mastercardinternational.com.
