Visa Ed (6/21/00)
FULL STORY:
Survey after survey shows that students are flunkies when it comes to
personal
finance. To help parents do a better job of educating their children, VISA
announced this week it is expanding its online Practical Money Skills for Life
consumer education program at www.edgate.com.
The new site provides informative, entertaining and thought-provoking ways to
teach children about money. Easy-to-implement programs, projects and games are
enhanced with online calculators and links to other resources. The site
content
was written by Jayne Pearl, author of Kids and Money Giving Them the Savvy to
Succeed Financially. Developed in partnership with the National Consumers
League, the Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy and
EdGate.com,
Inc., the existing Practical Money Skills for Life curriculum already includes
sections for educators and young adults in the classroom. In addition to
developing the curriculum and making it available, VISA is donating computer
labs to schools, upgrading computer labs and training teachers how to use the
program.
