FULL STORY:
Millions of mailboxes in the US are being hit this week with a solicitation
for the new Reader's Digest credit card. Bank One/First USA and The Reader's
Digest Association have teamed up to offer the Reader's Digest Platinum
MasterCard credit card. The new card offers a rewards program whereby
cardholders earn five points for every dollar spent on Reader's Digest
purchases and one point for all other purchases. The points are redeemable
towards free travel and merchandise from a special "Extraordinary Rewards"
catalog. Approved applicants also receive a free, introductory, six-month
subscription to Reader's Digest magazine, which is automatically billed on an
annual basis afterward. The new card features First USA's standard pricing
which includes an introductory 2.9% fixed APR on all purchases and balance
transfers through November. However you must make a balance transfer to get
the
2.9% rate. Otherwise the interest rate is Prime +4.24% (currently 13.24%). The
rate for cash advances and the punitive interest rate (for those breaking the
program rules) is Prime +11.24% (currently 20.24%). There is no annual fee.
The
card also provides $1 million in free and automatic travel accident insurance.
