Perhaps the highest value promotion to float by cardholders this summer is
hitting mailboxes this week. For travel between now and September 15,
American Express cardholders can get a free companion ticket on Virgin
Atlantic airlines, a free night at Summit Hotels and deeply discounted
tickets from British Midland airlines for intra-Europe travel. According to
CardWatch, Virgin Atlantic is offering AmEx cardholders two 'Upper Class'
tickets to London for the price of one. A single 'Upper Class' ticket runs
about $5,000 for roundtrip travel between Washington, DC and London. Virgin
Atlantic's 'Upper Class' service includes complimentary chauffeur-driven
service at both the U.S. and London airports, access to VA's expansive
'Clubhouses' and 'Touch Salon'. AmEx cardholders can also receive a second
night free at Summit Hotels & Resorts and a discount of up to 55% for each
additional night. British Midland is offering AmEx cardholders a flat rate
of $99 each way to fly to Brussels or Dublin. BM is also charging $139 each
way for travel to Prague or Frankfurt.
