Back-to-school shoppers can reap new rewards at major retailers this summer. American Express, today introduced a nationwide in-store promotion enabling shoppers to receive a free Back-To-School Card worth $25 from American Express when they purchase any two American Express Gift Cards between now and September 30. The Back-To-School Card can be used at Banana Republic, Old Navy, Gap and Linens 'n Things.

The promotion comes during the second busiest shopping season of the year. Back-to-school and back-to-college spending topped $50 billion last year, according to the National Retail Federation's 2006 Back-to-School and Back-to-College Consumer Intentions and Actions Surveys. Families spent an average of $527 on supplies for children in high school, and $1112 for incoming college freshmen.

"American Express has partnered with four of the nation's top retailers, Banana Republic, Old Navy, Gap and Linens 'n Things to offer American Express Gift Card customers greater flexibility when shopping for back-to-school clothing, school supplies, or much needed items for dorm rooms."

Shoppers can take advantage of this in-store promotion by visiting a participating location, purchasing any two American Express Gift Cards, completing a rebate form found in-store and mailing it to the address noted on the rebate form. Participating retailers include A&P, Albertsons, Carrs Food Store, CVS, Dominick's, Duane Reade, Eagle, Genuardi's, Kings, Pak N Save, Pavilions, Randalls, Rite Aid, Safeway, Simon David, Tom Thumb, Vons, Wawa, and Winn Dixie.

This promotion is only valid with in-store purchases from August 1-September 30, 2007. Rebate forms for the Back-To-School Card are available at the point of purchase. All forms must be received by October 22, with a limit of two Back-To-School Cards issued per household. The Back-to-School Card is valid for purchases at Banana Republic, Old Navy, Gap and

Linens 'n Things for three months after the date of issue.
